Our Facility
The CFSRE occupies 10,000 square feet of laboratory and classroom space in its center in Willow Grove PA. The facility has two classrooms each of which seat 24 people, or which can be opened up to accommodate an audience of 60 for special presentations and events. Each classroom has standard teaching equipment consisting of computer, ceiling installed projectors, and screens, whiteboards, and a ceiling installed audio system. The facility has password enabled WiFi throughout.
The laboratory space has 3000 square feet of sample preparation and teaching space recently reconfigured with modular laboratory furniture reconfigurable for different teaching and research assignments. The space is allocated into separate 1500 square foot areas for forensic biology/serology teaching, instructional laboratory classes, and research projects. The biology area has ceiling installed power cords for benchtop equipment, microscopy, and alternative lighting. There is a separate and equivalent space for forensic toxicology/chemistry instruction and research. The instrument area is another 2500 square feet that accommodates analytical instrumentation and benchtop equipment detailed in the attached list. Instrument time is assigned to staff, students and visiting scientists based on their project needs as resources permit. A separate clean room/post amplification area houses the DNA analysis instrumentation.
Limited office and desk space is available to academic partners and visiting scientists subject to the needs for their project, and is assigned based on identifiable need.
Our facility operates routinely from 7:30am until 5:00pm, Monday through Friday, and access to the laboratory after hours and on weekends is available, subject to meeting safety considerations and approval by Center staff on a case by case basis.
